On the final day of the 71st “Nikhil Bharat Samabay Saptaha” celebrations (20/11/2024), the central gathering was held at Dhanadhanye Stadium. The core theme for this year was “Bikoshito Bharat Nirmane Somobayer Bhumika”, highlighting the role of cooperatives in building a developed India. To focus on this theme, three successful cooperatives from West Bengal were selected.
Among these, “Bagnan Mahila Bikash Credit Cooperative” was recognized as a successful Mahila Samabay. Representing our organization, our Field Supervisor Rita Ghorai shared our success story from the stage.
The programme was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Shovandeb Chattopadhyay. The Hon’ble Minister of Cooperation and Panchayat Affairs, Shri Pradip Kumar Majumdar, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by the Hon’ble MLA and Chairman of the West Bengal Cooperative Union, Shri Swarnakamal Saha, along with other distinguished dignitaries.
We express our special gratitude to the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Government of West Bengal, and the Chief Executive Officer, West Bengal State Cooperative Union, Ms. Sangeeta Sadhu, for providing us with the opportunity to participate in this programme.
Today (05/03/2025), six doctors from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Uluberia visited Bagnan Mahila Bikash. The topic of discussion was children’s food habits and the role of mothers. A detailed session on this subject was conducted by Doctor Dibyendu Chakraborty.
Also present were Doctor Anuradha Ghosh, Doctor Suchitra Mukherjee, Doctor Abhijit Mukherjee, and Doctor Geeta Mukherjee.
From the side of Mahila Bikash, our Advisor Honourable Shri Gopal Chandra Ghosh was present, along with 54 cooperative staff members who actively support and manage Self-Help Groups. Through these staff members, our objective is to create awareness among more than 38,500 women members of Self-Help Groups under the cooperative.
This entire programme was conducted with the support and initiative of Bagnan’s eminent physician, Doctor Ravi Kar Pal. On behalf of the cooperative, we extend our sincere gratitude to him.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development honoured Mamtaj Begum, a member of Bagnan Mahila Bikash from the “Matla Self-Help Group,” at “Rabindranath–Okakura Bhavan” on 7 March.
Despite being abandoned by her husband, she gradually took small loans through her Self-Help Group and successfully built a stable and self-reliant family. She is a mother of two sons and currently owns 14 cows, 50 chickens, and 22 ducks. In addition, she has also established a grocery shop. Through these combined activities, her average monthly income now exceeds ₹50,000.
In recognition of this remarkable achievement, she was felicitated by the Honourable Minister of State, Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Ms. Shiuli Saha. The programme was also attended on the dais by the Honourable Minister of the Government of West Bengal, Shri Becharam Manna, along with other distinguished guests.

A group of 11 IAS officers (2024 batch) visited our cooperative to gain an understanding of women’s cooperatives, Self-Help Groups, and Producer Groups. This initiative was organized by B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development (BRAIPRD), Kalyani. Senior faculty member of the institute, Dr. Suparna Ganguly, was present during the visit. Also present were two members/workers representing Khanakul Agragati Bahumukhi Sangha Samabay, Hooghly, one of the successful “Sangha Samabay” institutions that emerged from a joint research-based initiative of BRAIPRD and “Bagnan Mahila Bikash” focused on promoting good governance practices for shaping the future of Sangha cooperatives.
In the second session of the programme, a comparative discussion meeting was held between Bagnan Mahila Bikash and Sangha Samabay.
The United Nations has declared this year as the International Year of Cooperatives, with the objective of highlighting how cooperatives can play a crucial role in ensuring sustainable development at the community level. In this context, International Cooperative Day was observed today at the Vivekananda Hall of the State Cooperative Union.
Today’s programme (05/06/2025) focused on the theme:
“Samabay: Ekti Unnoto Bisher Jonno Antorbhuktimulok Ebong Tekshoi Samadhaner Chalikashakti”
(Cooperatives: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World).
The event was graced by the presence of the Chairman of the State Cooperative Union, Shri Swarnakamal Saha. Also present were the RCS, Shri Niranjan Kumar; Additional RCS, Shri Ajay Kumar Ram; the CEO of the Cooperative Union; and the Deputy Registrar of Cooperatives, Ms. Sangeeta Sadhu. The programme was further enriched by the participation of eminent writers from Bhandar Patrika and representatives from various cooperatives.
On this occasion, on behalf of Bagnan Mahila Bikash Cooperative, Shri Swarnakamal Saha, Chairman of the Cooperative Union, was felicitated by Mrs. Barnali Dutta Sarkar. The success story of Bagnan Mahila Bikash was presented on this platform by another member of the organization, Mrs. Rita Ghorui.
A delegation of MLAs from the Standing Committee on Cooperative Affairs of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly visited Bagnan Mahila Bikash today (09/07/2025) as part of an official inspection.
During this visit, the ARCS of the Cooperative Department, Howrah district, the IC of Bagnan Police Station, and the Cooperative Inspector (CI) of Bagnan–I Block were also present.
